My key takeaways are: 1) never underestimate the importance of logistics and, 2) commanders with high charisma could positively or negatively impact a campaign. I’m still amazed at the willingness of these city-states to send off these huge fleets to far away lands for years at a time. What was the population total in Athens at the time? What percentage of their was left behind once these fleets left town? How many were left to protect the home front?
