About

I’m your host, Buckner F. Melton, Jr., author and sometime naval historian. Having written two volumes on naval history, and frustrated in my attempts to locate a good, accessible, up-to-date textbook on world naval history, I decided a year or two ago to write one myself. About the same time I figured that producing a companion podcast might be an interesting exercise. The result you now see on your screen.

Our first episode will get into the basics of maritime theory and naval strategy. After that we’ll begin in the mists of prehistory and follow the story of naval and maritime power down to the present day. I hope you’ll join me for the journey.

Mr. Melton, I really enjoy your podcast. I was only able to find one of your naval history publications on Amazon, “Sea Cobra.” Perhaps a link to places to purchase the companion publication(s) could be put into this site’s merchandise area? – w

Many thanks. A parental death in December just as I was about to start producing the next episode threw me off schedule, but it should be ready by late spring.

Sorry to hear that. It’ll be worth waiting until late spring.

Mr Melton, you have an informative podcast. I appreciate that they are continually available, for when I travel on long trips, whether by plane or automobile, I make sure all the episodes are downloaded, to provide me with several hours of thoughtful entertainment. I just listened to Ep.5, and will do so again on my travels home for Thanksgiving this year. I look forward to the publication of your naval history book. Thank you!

Thank you very much for your podcast, I am really enjoying it. It is very informative and I love the long (well written) episodes.

Unfortunately, your older episodes are no longer available on my podcast app. I hope these get added again.

    Please keep on going.

    Best,

    Bart

Many thanks. Are you using Stitcher by any chance? The feeds changed recently and I have yet to update it. I hope to correct this problem in the next couple of weeks. The iTunes problem has been corrected; if that’s how you download, try unsubscribing and then resubscribing. Please let me know if that works. Thanks again!

    Mr. Melton-
As a special operations Soldier who served 34 years, I was a participant in what will be history. During this time, I developed a passion to understand history and the long line of historic actions, statecraft, and military victories and defeats events that lead to today. Mike Duncan and his “History of Rome” has been the highest mark of excellence for history podcasts. You have exceeded that mark. Please continue the insightful work, and like Mike Duncan, keep us informed on your published works and new books. I encourage fellow podcast listeners to donate if they can. Your work in history and knowledge are essential to our Nation.
    Very Respectfully,
    Dan
